My first introduction to the Devon Rex was at 18 years old in the late 70’s when Felixir Phatomina a black smoke joined my family. I’ve always been mad about cats and there was rarely a time we did not have a cat in our family. I remember my grandmother giving me a lovely black and white half Persian kitten, years latter I had a White Persian from a lady that breed them and numerous mogs one of which allowed us kids to dress her up. But from the day I got Fanny I was well and truly smitten, this ugly (friends words not mine) little black thing that looked more like a monkey and ambushed any who ventured into her territory. I tried breeding from Fanny going to Allison Ashford’s stud boy Berrillion Crackles, she did get pregnant to him but reabsorbed the litter. Fanny preferred a bit of ruff and got pregnant to the local Tom. She had four beautiful kittens, but being a novice I did not realise that these kittens could be used in the breeding program back then. Years latter married with three children I still had that desire to breed Devon Rexes so our second Devon arrived Adensh Peaches Melba a red tabby girl she had a Tortie daughter by Windsprite Caesarea, Cycada Tuttie Fruitti. When Tuitti was a year old we acquired Jenirex Captain Pugwash producing a lovely boy who became known as Cycada Prime Suspect. In 2000 I put my British colour point to Pugsley’s son Cycada Wild Card their daughter Cycada Dawnbay Sky is the foundation of our new line and just two generations on we have Cycada Reloaded and Cycada Yum Yum.
Our next big adventure is the LaPerm we have three LaPerms a variant and two Burmilla's who will be used in the breeding we have also imported a short haired LaPerm from the U S A . One year on and we have been producing some nice LaPerms in both long hair and short hair. Our imported girl Kimimi la has presented us with two lovely boys one is staying here and the other has ventured up to Scotland to live with Kate Ekanger.
